I had read Princess first, then went and started from the beginning. I'm really happy I did and that I found these series and this author! I say these series, since there is separate series that can be read separately or together, in an order, which Sapphire keeps updated so reader's can follow! One is mafia, which is this book and one is MC. However, some characters intertwine. Honestly, in my opinion, if you are going to read & love one, you should read them all! These will be some of the hardest and worst reviews to be honest. I don't give spoilers & a lot of characters will be missing! So I can't give too much detail...This book has tons of Secrets, but who doesn't? Emily is skittish when the book begins, being where she's been, I already knew why, but other readers wouldn't. She meets Avery and they become friends. Emily keeps mentioning other people (in her thoughts), and Avery drags her to a club with 2 guys they met in class, Cameron & Luka. Slowly we learn about Emily's past, the Monster, and her secrets. During this, Luka or his nickname "Tate," likes Emily & she likes him too even though she won't admit it. Avery likes Cameron and points it out to Emily about Tate's feelings. Tate has a huge secret as well, Cameron has a secret too, as do all the characters we meet. Tate's biggest secrets is he's basically two people. He's trying to live a normal life, while also being the next "Boss" for the Mafia. He's falling hard & fast for Emily, but with her secrets that could hurt people that she cares for, she's fighting any feeling she has, even though she's falling for Tate too! Will she give in and give him a chance? Will the past come back to stall any happiness? Will each other's secrets stop what future they may have? Do the secrets ever stop?
